New evidence published in the Biology of Reproduction journal says that that drinking more soy milk and other healthy soy products could significantly reduce hair loss and male pattern baldness.
How? When your body starts to break down the isoflavones from soy milk and other products, one of the results is a compounds called equol. This substance helps to block the testosterone called DHT within the scalp. DHT has been linked to hair loss thinning hair for some time by other journals and publications. The hair loss prescription drug, Propecia, works much the same as it also blocks the natural conversion of testosterone into the DHT form.
So, the question is - should men suffering from thinning hair or a quickened hair loss switch to using soy milk?
Soy products might be able to reduce hair loss, but choosing more healthy whole foods could also increase your chances to keeping your hair.
Ironically, cow's milk has been linked to chronic sinus infections, asthma, constipation and a many other health issues. Many people believe that switching solely to soy milk and other soy products is a good nutritional strategy for men and women hair loss or not.
So, what's the bottom line? Soy milk and other products do help in reducing hair loss, although it would likely not stop your hair loss completely. Test the theory on yourself. Make the switch to soy and feel free to comment on your results.
