The Sugar Busters Program follows an idea that an ordinary person eats as much as a pound each week.
Whatever sweets you consume, such as yogurt, apple pie or juice, sugar has always been a part in one’s diet. However, the more flavors this substance adds to your meals, the more weight a person gains.
This program involves of taking out the sugar consumption on your daily diet. The Sugar Busters Diet claims that sugar is toxic and participants are required to avoid refined sugar in food substances.
This sugar restriction is based from the author’s idea that starchy and sugary foods stimulate the pancreas to release hormone insulin. Because of this insulin production, the body stores fat, and you gain weight.
The Sugar Busters Diet, which lasts 2 weeks, consists of about 30% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 40% fat. These dietary percentages, if followed correctly, supposedly end in weight reduction.
While on this diet plan, a participant is allowed to consume red meat, fish, poultry, dairy foods, olive oil, nuts, oats, whole-wheat pasta and whole grain bread.
On the other hand, the dieters are prohibited from eating complex carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, white rice, potatoes and most sugary foods.
This diet gives the participant a sense of freedom because he or she is not required to measure their food or count calories. Instead, the program recommends watching portion sizes.
One of the major drawbacks of the Sugar Busters Diet is that by keeping a low-Carb and high-protein diet could cause an undetectable increase in one’s blood glucose.
The program’s most controversial claim is that by restricting or eliminating certain foods, the dieter can reduce insulin resistance. This resistance is a condition in which the body becomes insensitive to normal levels of circulating insulin in the bloodstream.
There have been constant debates as to whether insulin causes weight gain. While a high level of insulin causes heart diseases is a fact, there is still no evidence relating the total sugar elimination from weight loss.
Yet, any restriction of certain food groups, such as protein, Carbs, or sugar, will definitely help in reducing weight since the calorie intake is surely to drop.
