High Fiber Diet

Dieting

Fiber is one of the extremely important parts of one’s diet.

Dietary fiber, which is also called roughage, is part of food that cannot be digested by the human body. Since it cannot be digested, it serves as a broom to clean out the intestinal system. This helps the intestines to function properly and prevent or cure ailments and disorders related to the digestive system.

When a person lacks fiber, he or she experiences constipation.

There are two kinds of dietary fiber: soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber includes citrus fruits, beta-glucans such as oats, barley and rye. Insoluble fiber are those that could be found in all plants.

Roughage could be found in vegetables, plant cell walls, cereals, pulses, fruits and majority of plant foods.

A High-fiber Diet consists of low-calorie foods. Fibers contain no calories.

Psychologically, since fiber takes a longer time to chew, the dieter feels satisfied. In addition to this, when you consume fiber, it absorbs water. As soon as it reaches the stomach, it mixes up with liquid and swells and thus the dieter feels full.

Unlike any other carbohydrates, high fiber foods take a longer time in the stomach. This prevents the dieter from feeling hungry too soon after eating.

Medical study suggests that dietary fiber binds with fat and reduces the absorption of small amounts of fat, leading to lesser calorie intake.

The program is far less strict than other weight loss plans. It only suggests following a balance of the needed food groups while increasing the consumption of fiber.

High in fiber foods include fresh fruits, cereals, grain foods, vegetables and bread. It is advisable to drink plenty of water when on this diet and eat at moderate intervals.

A High Fiber Diet offers a wide range of health benefits such as insulin resistance and reduced risks of digestive system disorders.

This diet is suitable for people who suffer from diabetes, hypertension and digestive disorders. It could also be used by people who are healthy for guidelines in proper food choices.

Following the high fiber diet allows you to reduce weight because it emphasizes on eating only the healthy foods. This, accompanied by daily exercise, may meet your goals in weight loss.
