The Grapefruit Diet is one of the oldest and popular weight loss plans since 1930.
The fruit, which has several varieties such as white, pink and red grapefruit, has glucose that helps in fighting diabetes. Because of the glucose content, the body’s sugar level rises and helps the blood to flow, and thus lowering the sugar content in the body.
The grapefruit diet claims that its insulin content helps in the metabolism process. Since the body turns the food into useful energy, the body will not store excess fat and will cause weight loss.
In the Grapefruit Diet, dieters are required to drink a glass of grapefruit after every meal or consume half of the fruit.
This program needs discipline and food control due to its restrictiveness. For breakfast, a person can only have 2 egg whites along with 2 slices of bacon. The dieter can only have 8oz of unsweetened grapefruit juice or an equivalent of a half the fruit. You could drink tea or black coffee as long as it is sugar-free.
During lunch and dinner, the dieter could have any salad style with red meat cooked in your preferred style. He or she also have an option of meat with vegetables. Every after meal, the dieter should consume the 8oz of juice or half the grapefruit.
Due to the inflexible menu, the person who follows this diet should be aware of the instructions of his or her meals to benefit from it entirely.
Although the program allows the dieter to eat as much as they can, he or she cannot eat between meals because this will upset the entire diet plan.
The Grapefruit diet claims that dieters who follow this program will not lose weight during the first four days. However, on the fifth day, he or she will lose five pounds and 1 or 2 pounds during the following days.
The diet plan emphasizes on the importance of regular exercise to ensure maximum results.
Since grapefruit is fat-free, full of vitamin C and low in calories, it could be advantageous to ones health. Pink grapefruits also contains beta-carotene. However, following this kind of diet is monotonous and lacks calcium, iron and numerous vitamins.
