Blood Type Diet

Dieting

Peter J. D’Adamo, an acknowledged expert in naturopathic medicine, is the author of the Blood Type Diet. His theory claims that a person’s blood type is the key that unlocks many of the healing abilities of the body.

The Blood Type Diet follows the idea that people’s blood group uncovers how the body deal with various nutrients. The program claims that when a person eats food that "agrees" with the blood group, he or she reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, infections, liver disease and diabetes.

The diet program also suggests that the body’s level of digestive enzymes and stomach acidity are both connected with the blood type. Therefore, when a person follows a diet that is designed exclusively for his blood type, the body will absorb and digest food more effectively. As a result, the dieter will lose weight.

Despite the scientific approach of the Blood Type Diet, Dr. D’Adamo also believed that the diet plan should focus on the kinds of food our ancestors ate during the time period a particular blood type was identified.

The "Eat Right for Your Type" or Blood Type Diet is divided into the following diets:

1) Blood Group O – Identified during the 50,000 B.C. Dr. D’Adamo believes that since the type O ancestors, who were hunter-gatherers, survived on meat-based diet, the program advises people with blood type of O to stick to high-protein diet. Hence, red meat is definitely an important part of the diet.

2) Blood Group A – This blood type emerged sometime around 15,000 B.C. Dr. D’Adamo believes that as the type A ancestors, who were farmers at the time, live on vegetable-based diet, individuals included in the blood group A should follow a diet with vegetables and fruits.

The high in carbohydrate, low in fat diet is important to blood group A since people from this group are believed to have sensitive immune systems. The provided diet avoids food substances such as meat and dairy products that incur large risks of diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

3) Blood Group B – This blood type became known around 10,000 B.C. Dr. D’Adamo believes that since the blood type B ancestors were nomads during this time, the diet they followed were a mixture of meat, grains, vegetables and dairy.

Due to this philosophy, people with blood type B are advised to consume a balanced diet of vegetables, fish, grains, fruits, meat and dairy products. Yet, chicken should be avoided. Dr. D’Adamo believed that people from this blood group have the best chances of surviving common and severe diseases.

4) Blood Group AB – This blood type evolved only 1,000 years ago. Dr. D’Adamo claims that the ancestors of this group made way through the transition of modern times. Meaning, individuals with this blood type could have a diet with a mixture of both blood type A and B diet plans.

Although medical experts find Dr. D’Adamo’s theories to be scientifically incorrect, you will definitely lose weight due to the elimination of vital food groups.

The only advantage of following the Blood Type Diet is the dieter is lead to eating healthy because the program emphasizes on vegetables and fruits.

The "Eat Right for Your Type" Diet is not recommended for long-term weight loss since it eliminates many of the needed nutrients the body needs.
