Uses: Topamax is an anticonvulsant drug produced by Ortho-McNeil, a division of Johnson & Johnson.
How to use: Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually twice daily or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole. To prevent kidney stones from forming, drink plenty of liquids while taking this medication.
Side effects: The most common side effects include a change in taste and feelings of pins and needles in the head and extremities. Less common side effects include cognitive deficiency (particularly word-finding difficulty); grogginess; lethargy; renal stones, impairment of fine motor skills;vision problems weight loss; mentrual problems, abdominal pains, respiratory problems, diplopia; rash; leukopenia; fatigue; dizziness; insomnia; anxiety; depression; paresthesia; and dyspepsia;
The FDA has warned and even issued a notification to all medical practitioners about the major effects of Topimarate. Side effects that came out from the studies include blindness, myopia,osteoporosis and rickets.
Drug Interaction: It reacts to drugs like carbamazepine, phenytoin. It also reacts with Alcohol, and other pills like digoxin.
Overdose: Symptoms of overdose may include but are not limited to: seizures, dizziness and tiredness, agitation, depression, vision problems, loss of coordination, confusion, fainting, abdominal pains, hunger, vomiting.
Notes: Topamax can cause acute acne. Topamax may also encourage you to stop smoking.
Missed dose: Skip the missed dose when its almost time for the next dose. Do not try to take or make up with the missed dose. Continue with the regular next dosage. Inform your doctor if you have some kidney and liver problems to avoid complications.
Storage: Store at room temp. in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light.
