Uses: Tamiflu is a medicine that is used to treat flu (infection caused by influenza virus). It belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications attack the influenza virus and prevent it from spreading inside your body.
It’s an antiviral medication that blocks the actions of viruses in your body and is used to treat illness due to influenza virus in patients who have had symptoms for less than 2 days.
How to use: A Tamiflu 75mg capsule is taken orally. Take each capsule with a glass of water. Shake it well and measure the liquid form of Tamiflu using correct dose- measuring cup. It is taken with or without food.
In most cases, this drug is taken twice a day for 5 days, however, seek advise from the doctor to ensure about your cure and safety.
Side Effects: Oftentimes, you will experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness and other respiratory symptoms. It is better to inform your doctor when you feel something unusual while taking this drug.
If allergic reaction occurs, stop taking Tamiflu immediately and seek medical attention.
Precautions:
•Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, or breastfeeding while taking Tamiflu as this may bring harm to the baby. Although, Tamiflu is in the FDA pregnancy category C , meaning, it has not been known its effect to the fetus or to patients who are breasfeeding while under treatment.
• For those with kidney problems, liver problems, allergic to some substances and those with serious illnesses, inform your doctor before proceeding in taking this drug.
• For children, this medicine has not been tested in children younger than 1 year of age. For older adults, this medicine has been tested in older adults and has not been shown to cause different side effects or problems in older adults than it does in younger adults.
Drug Interaction:
• It is very unlikely that Tamiflu interacts with other drugs. To ensure safety and good health, it is good to ask from a doctor’s advise.
Overdose: Once overdose have occurred, immediately seek emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Tamiflu overdose include nausea and vomiting.
Notes: Keep away from people with flu to get away from being contaminated. Observe proper hygiene. Maintain a healthy lifestyle including good diet, adequate sleep, low stress and drink plenty of water.
Missed Dose: Follow the prescribed time interval in taking Tamiflu. However, if you missed a dose, take it right away, and then, follow the regular schedule of the next dose. Take the dose one at a time base on the doctor’s instruction or drug label.
Storage: Keep out of the reach of children. Store it at room temperature, away from any heat or moisture. The suspension can be placed at the refrigerator. Check the expiration of every medicine you take.
