Generic Name: digoxin

Uses: Lanoxin is prescribed in people with heart failure to act upon by slowing down the rate of the heart ,in effect, each heartbeat is more effective at pumping blood. Lanoxin also helps to manipulate the symptoms of breathlessness, tiredness, and fluid retention. It is used in handling congestive heart failure, certain types of irregular heartbeat, and other heart problems. It betters the strength and efficiency of your heart, which directs to more well circulation of blood and reduction of the uneasy swelling that is usual in people with congestive heart failure.

How to use: Lanoxin is usually taken once a day . It may be in a form of a tablet, capsule, liquid, and injection form. It's best to take this medicine on an empty stomach.

Side Effects: Taking the medication could bear some side effects which may include, apathy, breast development in males, blurred vision, change in heartbeat, confusion, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, lower stomach pain, nausea, psychosis, rash, vomiting, weakness, and yellow vision.

Precautions: Do not take this medicine with foods rich in fiber like cereals.Never swithc from one brand of this drug to another without first consulting your doctor, to avoid health complication. Never use LANOXIN, if you have ever had an allergic (hypersensitivity) reaction to digoxin or to any of the other ingredients in the LANOXIN.

Drug Interaction: Before taking Lanoxin, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:

  1. Quinidine
  2. Amiodarone
  3. Antacid or Laxative that contains aluminum, magnesium, or kaolin-pectin
  4. Atenolol
  5. Acebutolol
  6. Maxzide
  7. Amiloride

Overdose: An overdose of LANOXIN may cause symptoms similar to the "Side effects", and include defective potassium levels in the blood, and slow and/or irregular heart beats. An overdose of LANOXIN can sometimes be fatal.

Note: Inquire your doctor to teach you how to monitor your heart rate and at what heart rate you should give notice to them before taking any more medication.

Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, and you remember within 12 hours, take it right away. If you miss a dose and its pass 12 hours interval, skip that dose, and wait for the next  regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same time. If you miss doses 2 or more days in a row, consult your doctor.

Important Note: Do not stop taking Lanoxin all of a sudden. Stopping suddenly could make your condition worse. Even if you feel improve, you need to keep taking this medication to help the heart work properly. Make sure you always have enough Lanoxin on hand for vacations and holidays.

Storage: Keep this drug away from young children. Keep LANOXIN tablets in a cool, dry place away from light where the temperature stays below 25°C. Keep your LANOXIN tablets in their pack until it is time to take them. If you take LANOXIN tablets out of their pack they may not work as well. LANOXIN for IV injection is stored in a hospital ward or pharmacy in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
