Uses: Famotidine is expended to cure ulcers in the stomach and intestines. Famotidine also helps treat conditions related to too much acid in the stomach and conditions of GERD which acid goes up to esophagus. 

How to use: Prescription of famotidine descends as a tablet and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is normally taken once daily at the time you go to bed or two to four times a day. Nonprescription famotidine comes as a tablet, a chewable tablet, and a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or twice a day. To prevent symptoms, it is taken 15 to 60 minutes before eating foods or drinking drinks that may cause heartburn. Follow the instructions on your prescription, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take famotidine exactly as directed.

Side Effects: The H2 blockers as a group have a very ascertained potentiality for side effects, hence their recent release to “nonprescription” status.

Precautions: Before acquiring this medication, Inform your doctor if you have previous health problems of kidney disease or liver trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment. This may not do harm to the baby, but, precautionary measures are needed to ensure safety of the body condition.

Drug Interaction: Never take antacids within 1 hour of taking famotidine. Antacids may decrease the effectiveness of famotidine.

Overdose: Symptoms of a famotidine overdose include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, increased saliva production, difficulty breathing, and a fast heartbeat. Seek medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Notes:
There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activities while taking famotidine unless otherwise guided by your doctor.

Missed Dose: Take missed dose as soon as you recall them. However, bypass dose if it is almost time for the next dose, and take only the dose of the regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at one time, unless, prescribed by your doctor.

Important Note: Do not cease taking this medication without first talking to your doctor. Eight weeks is essential to treat an ulcer.

Storage: Keep this medicament in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from too much heat and moisture. Do not allow the liquid to freeze. Ignore any medication that is outdated or no longer needed, and throw away unused famotidine liquid after 30 days. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
