Aviane:An Oral Contraceptive

Drug Name: Aviane

Brand Names: Alesse, Aviane, Levlen, Levlite, Levora, Tri-Levlen, Triphasil, Triphasil-28, Trivora

Generic Name: ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel (ETH in ill ess tra DYE ole and LEE voe nor jess trel)
   
Uses: Aviane is another good birth control pill. Its chemical component is made up of a mixture of natural estrogens and progestins, very much similar to the female hormones involved in conception. Ethinyl estradiol has an estrogenic compound and levonorgestrel is a form progestin. These products can prevent ovulation,disrupts fertilization and pregnancy. It prevents the  sperm from penetrating to the uterus to unite to an egg cell.In short, inhibits pregnancy.

How to use: Ideally, these Oral contraceptives should be taken daily at the same time to reduce the chance of forgetting a dose. A duration of prescribed cycle of 21 0r 28 days is important to make the contraceptive effective. Start the cycle according to package directions.

Side Effects: Seek medical attention immediately if among of the following will be experienced while taking the birth control pill:

  • allergic reactions that caused difficulty in breathing
  • closing of your throat
  • swelling of the lips, tongue, or face
  • pain in the chest
  • pain, redness and numbness of arms and legs
  • high blood pressure
  • liver damage
  • abdominal discomfort and unusual bleeding
  • vaginal yeast infection
  • changes in your sex drive, and blood sugar
  • changes in mentrual cycle

If minor effects arises, such as feeling dizzy,nausea, vomiting,and headache, you may continue taking the pill as this may disappear after a few months use or when the body system has fully adapted to the drug. If there are some uncommon side effects, consult your doctor at an immediate time.


Precautions:
Before taking this medication, there are certain precautions to be considered. If you are pregnant, then there should be an absolute contraindication. It should not be given to a child under 12.

Patients under the medication of Avianne- oral contraceptive should stop using the drug if they have a migraine, reproductive system problems, history of stroke, heart disease, liver disease, chest pain, or blood clots. And if you had pregnancy related to jaundice resulting from the use of other oral contraceptives before.  

Smoking promotes the risk of heart related side effects on women, especially, at those age over 35, thus, it should be stopped if you are taking Aviane. 


Drug Interaction:
Aviane Oral may interact with the following medications: antibiotics or medicines for infections, especially rifampin, aprepitant, ritonavir or other medicines for the treatment of the HIV virus or AIDS. These medications are not usually taken together. Medications may interact and cause very harmful effects.

Overdose: In case of Aviane overdose, seek medical help right away.Symptoms of Aviane overdose may include nausea, vomiting, and withdrawal bleeding.

Notes: Aviane which consists of a combination of ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel works better than single- ingredient product. It is an oral contraceptive that prevents ovulation, and implantation of an embryo, thus, reduces the risk of getting pregnant. 

Ethinyl estradiol/levonorgestrel tablets are also known to help regulate mentrual blood flow, treat acne and other skin problems for hormone related problems in women.

Missed Dose: If you miss the dose, take the pill as soon as you remember, and take the next pill at your regular time. The more tablets that you miss, the higher risk of pregnancy may take place.So, If you miss more than one tablet, take the two missed tablets as soon as you remember or on the next regular dosage schedule. Chances are much greater during ovulation, so, better, to use another method of birth control for at least 7 days following the missed tablets.It is also another precautionary measure to use another birth control method following the missed tablets to avoid getting pregnant.

Important Note: Visit your OB-Gyne for regular checks on its progress. A complete check-up at least twice a year is recommended. If unusual vaginal bleeding occurs,discontinue use and seek medical help immediately. If you miss a period, there's a possibility that the patient is pregnant, thus, factor, like this must be considered.

Storage: Store Aviane (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Aviane (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
