Phentermine Drug Name: PHENTERMINE

APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS - ORAL

COMMON PHENTERMINE BRAND NAME(S): Fastin, Ionamin, Plegine, Prelu-2, Sanorex, Tenuate

PHENTERMINE USES: Phentermine is used in combination with a diet plan to help you reduce overall weight.

HOW TO USE PHENTERMINE: Phentermine is best taken on an empty stomach one hour before meals. Oral Phentermine Hydrochloride (HCL) is sold for weight loss. It is in the Sympathomimetic family of appetite suppressants (used for the short-term management of exogenous obesity.) When used in conjunction with diet, exercise, and behavior therapy, Phentermine may help you to lose weight while you are learning new ways to eat and to exercise. Sustained-release or long acting products must be swallowed whole. Crushing or chewing Phentermine will destroy the long action and may cause increased side effects. Because Phentermine may cause sleeplessness, avoid taking a dose late in the day. Take Phentermine as prescribed. Do not take Phentermine more often or longer than directed. Phentermine is usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks. Use Phentermine in combination with other appetite suppressant medicine is generally not recommended. Consult your doctor before such use of Phentermine.

PHENTERMINE SIDE EFFECTS: Blurred vision, dizziness, dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability, stomach upset or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to Phentermine. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience: chest pain, nervousness, pounding heart, difficulty urinating, mood changes, breathing difficulties, swelling. If Phentermine makes you dizzy or lightheaded, avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. If you notice other effects from taking Phentermine not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. Adults under Age 60 - Oral dosage form (Capsules) - 15 to 37.5 mg once/day before breakfast or 1-2 hours after breakfast. Oral dosage form (Tablets) - 15 to 37.5 mg once/day before breakfast or 1-2 hours after breakfast. Instead of taking it once a day, your doctor may tell you to take 15 to 37.5 mg in divided doses one-half hour before meals. Oral resin dosage form (Capsules) - 15 to 30 mg once/day before breakfast. Adults Age 60 and Over - A reduced dosage may be necessary. Consult your physician. Infants and Children - Phentermine is NOT recommended for children under age 16.

PHENTERMINE PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your complete medical history, especially if you have: high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes, emotional problems. Phentermine can be habit forming and must be used with caution. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness. Limit alcohol use. Phentermine is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for further information. Phentermine should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risk and benefits with your doctor. Phentermine may be excreted into breast milk. You may have to stop nursing or stop using Phentermine. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding while using Phentermine.

PHENTERMINE DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, (prescription and nonprescription) especially if you take: high blood pressure medicine, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), any other weight loss medicine before taking Phentermine. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase your heart rate such as decongestants or caffeine. Decongestants are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold medicines. Do not start or stop Phentermine or any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

PHENTERMINE OVERDOSE: If Phentermine overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of Phentermine overdose may include restlessness, fever, fast breathing, dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, panic or paranoid, drowsiness, convulsions, unconsciousness, unusually fast or slow heart beat, headache, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, pale or flushing, chest pain, sweating, muscle weakness, agitation, large pupils, or delusions.

PHENTERMINE NOTES: Appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper diet. For maximum effects, Phentermine must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program. Do not share Phentermine with others.

MISSED PHENTERMINE DOSE: If you miss a Phentermine dose, do not double the next Phentermine dose. Instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual Phentermine dosing schedule.

PHENTERMINE STORAGE: Store Phentermine at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Do not store Phentermine in the bathroom.

IMPORTANT PHENTERMINE NOTE: THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS INTENDED TO SUPPLEMENT, NOT SUBSTITUTE FOR, THE EXPERTISE AND JUDGMENT OF YOUR PHYSICIAN, PHARMACIST OR OTHER HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL. IT SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED TO INDICATE THAT USE OF THE DRUG IS SAFE, APPROPRIATE, OR EFFECTIVE FOR YOU. CONSULT YOUR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL BEFORE USING PHENTERMINE.

Phentermine 37.5mg versus 30mg dosage

Hello,
I've been taking Phentermine 37.5mg for about three weeks now. It's worked well for me so far. However, when I visited my doctor again for a checkup and to get a Phentermine refill, I noticed leter that she wrote the prescription refill for 30mg instead of 37.5mg.
I'm not sure if this is a mistake on the doctor's part or if the dosage is decreased due to some reason after taking it for only a few weeks.

I'm worried that I'm not going to have the same results in losing weight as I did with the 30mg. How different is the effectiveness between the two Phentermine dosages? Hopefully I will get some feedback here before I call my doctor.

Thanks for the help! Jen

Answering your question about Phentermine dosages

Hi,
My doctor did the same thing to me for this prescription. I asked and he said it's pretty common to lower the dosage after a few weeks of taking Phentermine.

You should see decent results with the lower doage as well. Please let us know how it goes.

Lower Phentermine dosage

Hello,
I had the same thing happen with my doctor. He put me on Phentermine 30mg dosages. I lost weight at about the same rate as before with the higher dosage.

You shouldn't have a problem still losing weight.

teenagers & phentermine

What about a diabetic teenager? Could a low dose of this help a diabetic teenager lose weight if closely monitored? Or would this do more damage than good? At fifteen she's in need of an appetite suppressant.

Wanting to try Phentermine, Which is Best?

I am looking into trying phentermine but am unsure as to the type to get. As I understand there a time released versions (which seem much more expensive). Then there is phentermine HCI, what seems to be the generic "regular" phentermine. Am I right about this? What kind have you folks found success with and what do you recommend?

I need to loose at least 20 pounds by mid January. The low carb diet I am on isn't going to get me there in time (with my slight cheating at times).
After the initial 20 I still have another 20-30 to shed.

Thanks, Matty
