Hoodia and the Weight Loss Hoopla

Hoodia weight lossHoodia gordonii, the South African succulent favored by the San Bushmen of the Kalahari desert may just be a dieter's dream, or possibly just another weight loss supplement with empty promises. It was only a little over one year ago when CBS sent a "60 Minutes" news correspondent to the desert of Kalahari to ask questions and try the plant herself. After chewing a Hoodia leaf, she said there was no desire for food for almost 24 hours. Soon after, a BBC news reporter soon reported the same thing.

After these news segments, the interest in this plant skyrocketed, as well as sales for this weight loss supplement although little research has been done to confirm the assumption it has no side effects. Further reports mention that consumers who are buying weight loss supplements over the Internet or at their local health food stores may not be getting what they’re paying for. Nutritionists have always said that dieting achieved by starving the body is not a good idea, and who can argue with this, right? The only known clinical study was conducted on rats, and because hoodia is considered as an appetite suppressant that affects the body centrally, there are unknown risks to organs, nervous and circulatory systems within the body.

Hoodia may be as safe as purified water, but without research, who knows for sure. Some people in the industry have questioned whether the products that claim of containing hoodia as a primary ingredient actually do contain the supplement at all. Critics have also argued that there isn’t enough cultivated hoodia to account for all the new created weight loss products claiming to have it as an ingredient. While the hoodia plant grows in the unforgiving sands of the Kalahari desert, it apparently is not easy to propagate or reproduce in nurseries or in commercial fields.

Many dieters are even told that for hoodia pills to work effectively, they must be coupled with reduced calorie intake, reduction of carbohydrates, fats, and to drink lots of water and exercise. One of the hoodia manufacturers even recommends walking one to two miles a day, and drinking one ounce of water for every two pounds you weigh. Seems like a great way to lose weight in itself.

Who would even know if hoodia even worked effectively or not if you were told to do all this, right? So, what do you think? Is hoodia just another weight loss dream and product to make the sellers rich? Or, does it really have any substantial proof to back its effectiveness?

I think Hoodia works, but what about the plants being harvested?

Hello,
I realize that many people jump on stuff like this as soon as it's reported and they can buy it.
My concerns are more for the plants that are being harvested, not to mention the land, people, and villages that will be affected by this harvesting and receive nothing in return.

This same thing happened with Coral Calcium being harvested off of the coast of Okinawa, Japan. Coral reefs have been destroyed - and for what - a buzz for a product that will cure, improve health dramatically, and all of the other hype surrounding it.

About Hoodia though; to me I don't think that starving yourself by chewing on a leaf would be recommended by ANY nutritionist in the U.S. It's just ridiculous that people would do this to their body.

Exercise, diet, and not a "cure all" buzz for a weight loss product will be what helps people lose weight successfully.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this though. I've never tried Hoodia, but have read lots about it since last year when it was reported.

Hoodia helped me lose 16 pounds

Hello,
I tried Hoodia after I saw the CBS broadcast about a year ago. I took it for approximately 3 months, but not consecutively for those three months.

I lost an average of 6 pounds each month and only gained about a pound or so back.

I think if there is a way to produce more Hoodia or mimick the way it works, then harvesteing wouldn't be so much of an issue. But I feel its a fairly safe alternative to just the stand alone diet.

I'd like to know other people's results.
Jenise

Hoodia works. I've tried it.

I tried Hoodia Gordonii 9 months ago for about 4-6 weeks. It did work well for me - I lost about 19 pounds. My wife lost even more, I believe around 26 pounds total.

There are other things you can take to curve your appetite, but the reason why this weight loss supplement was developered was because African Bushman used this to curve their appetite decades ago and still today.

I just hope Hoodis doesn't become very over used and the natural environment is harmed in any way.

Our Hoodia Testimonial

Hello,

I just wanted to write to say that my wife and I are just about to finish up our 3rd bottle of 100% Pure Hoodia Gordinii {500 mg capsules} that we purchased from your site and we are pleased with the results that Hoodia has given us so far. Neither of us have experienced any side effects compared to Xenical, which we both took over a year ago. The Hoodia diet pills seem to block both of our appetites without leaving us hungry feeling. We have each lost (me) 16 pounds and (my wife) 19 pounds.

We just ordered 3 more bottles and will let you know how it goes after that. We could not be happier with this Hoodia product.
